Banquet Ends Season

Boynton Beach: The season may have ended more than two months ago, but last night at the annual awards banquet the season officially came to a close.  More than 100 people were on hand to celebrate the Junior Varsity's 12-4-1 and  Varsity 9-8-3 teams.

The evening started with Coach Jim Cappello welcoming the families and handing out the Sadler Cup Summer tournament awards.  Carleigh Hoelzel received the third place title, while Katelin Glass was the runner-up.  Stephanie Rush was the overall winner, taking the championship and also having next years tournament carry her name, the Rush Cup!

Following dinner Coach Kyle handed out Junior Varsity Awards to each player, getting some laughs, some surprised, and very deserving players.  The final award for Junior Varsity went to Marissa Sunshine being selected Most Valuable Player.

The guest were treated to desert before being entertained by video put together by Captain Katelin Glass.  Twelve players received their Varsity letter, with eight of them being freshmen.  Their were 3 two year award winners and 5 three year winners.  Katy Richardson was this season's only four year varsity player.  Following the letter ceremony, individual awards were handed out.  It was stated several times by coach Jim that not only could these awards be switched around, but several players not receiving awards could have easily been selected.

Rookie of the year was an award that could have gone to 12 different players.  Several players fit this award and could have been perfect but in the end Freshmen Goalkeeper Megan Anderson was selected.  She recorded 7 shutouts and only allowed 22 goals.

D-Train award went to Freshmen Stephanie Rodriguez for her hard play and impact on the field.  During her first season, she lead the team in fouls, most of them being extremely hard.

Diamond in the Rough was another award that had several people on the top of the list and in the running.  It was Junior Taryn Santiago that was selected, becoming both a top defender marking up some of the top players in the county, and forward scoring 6 goals and 3 assists during the season.

Coaches Award went to Senior Stephanie Rush who over the season became a player that we couldn't afford not to have on the field.  She moved from the outside to the center and make a huge impact.

Defensive Player of the Year went to last Years D-Train award winner Senior Sami Sadler.  Sadler was selected first team in both newspapers, and also on the all conference team.  She graduates as one of the most decorated girls soccer players.

Offensive Player of the Year went to Junior Katelin Glass who led the team in all offensive categories.  She scored 14 goals, 13 assists and 41 points while taking 99 shots.

The Glue Award went to the "Heart and soul of this years team," according to coach Jim.  This player recorded 13 goals and 9 assists and "never seemed to have a bad game."  Junior Maya Pun, 2010 Diamond in the Rough recipient was selected, to her surprise.  Coach Jim mentioned that this is a step in the process to work for next years Player of the year award for the county!

Offensive Player of the Year Katelin Glass and The Glue Award Winner Maya Pun.
